Florence Falls Camping
Closest campsite in Litchfield from Darwin City. Roughly 1.5 hours drive. Great to do if you only have one night camping, or if you are leaving from work on a Friday (pending its not high season and you can secure a spot). I love this campsite for its vibrant red dirt, great to show friends from out of town. Beware, the red gets on everything - and takes a few washes to get out! One of the few campsites in Litchy that you can have fires next to your tent. You can hear the water flowing from your campsite, but the actually falls are about 10 min walk down stream. You can 'dip' in the stream along the way, although there are a few croc signs, swim at your own risk (mainly in the dry season and with clear vision). But I love this campsite, I can't get passed how red and vibrant the dirt is. Proper NT experience. Late afternoon and early mornings are best for swimming in Florence, as it is one of the most popular waterfalls in the park, it gets very, very busy. But if you time it correctly, you can have the whole falls to yourself!
We also like to have sunset at Buley Rockhole, its a 1.5km walk (one way), but we usually drive so we can take the esky. Again, it can be very busy - but lots of day visitors are there, so if you go late arvo or early morning there is less of a crowd. We take a few beers (cans no glass) and sit in the top pools. Very refreshing.
