Darwin is big on markets and fresh produce. Being a tropical climate and so close to Asia, there is definitely a big Asian influence on the food- some amazing laksa and Thai noodle soups. A huge assortment of asian greens and interesting fruits.
Malak - only runs during the dry season on Saturday afternoon/nights in Malak. A bit further out of the CBD it is very local, there is a strong organic presence and they are committed to being 100% plastic free. Make sure you bring your re-useable containers. Great food, live music.
Parap - runs all year long on Saturdays morning until 1pm. This is my favourite and also my local markets. You can get fresh veggies, juices, tropical flowers, curry pastes and spices, huge variety of market food and also some uniquely Darwin clothes/craft/gifts. Make sure you get a laksa from Mary's - it will be the one with the longest line.
Mindil - the most well known markets in Darwnin, they run at Mindil Beach during the dry season on Thursday and Sunday nights. They can get very busy! Huge amount of different food stalls, take some wine or beer with you as they don't sell any, and watch the sunset over the beach. There's live music and a few different shows going on. Lots of quirky Darwin gifts and crafts.
Rapid Creek - runs all year long on Saturdays and Sundays - predominately a food market, it is very local, best for getting fresh veggies, mostly tropical/asian greens. Lots of fruit I've never seen or heard of. You can pick up some authentic, home-made curry pastes, sauces, chillies and herbs. Very cheap. There are a few food stalls that have some amazing noodles soups, paw paw salads, rotis etc.
Nightcliff - runs all year on Sundays in Nightcliff. Similar to Parap Markets - lots of food stalls, plants, gifts, fresh fruit and veggies.
