Our first house in Darwin was a new terrace in Bayview - tiled floors and a brand new kitchen. It was nice, but a bit sterile, lacking character and didn't have the pre love/lived in feel.
We moved out within a year and found our perfect tropical home in Larrakeyah. A home that encapsulates the Darwin lifestyle; with more louvres than walls. Built in the 70's our little house has weathered many storms and a few cyclones, included Cyclone Tracey. The large garden and pool have been more work than we thought, the amount of palm fronds and coconuts that drop have seen us do many trips to the garden waste centre at the tip. During the wet season, we have to mow the lawn at least once a fortnight, and during the dry season we have to make sure there is adequate water over night. We have learnt for next time to negotiate garden/pool care into our lease.

We have been so fortunate to live in such a classic style Darwin house, they are a dying style up here, with many architects opting for air-conditioned, cement style houses.
We will be sad to leave our little home, sad to leave the possums, frogs, bush turkeys, geckos (not the cane toads - they can all die).
