MUFF - Mandorah Ukulele Folk Festival
The people of Darwin love an acronym, especially when it's a little crass. Something that is catchy, witty and that aligns with the Territory's sense of humour.

This is the MUFF - the Mandorah Ukulele Folk Festival.
Mandorah is part of the Wagait Beach shire, a small beach community that lies across the harbour from Darwin, population 461. There's only a few streets that make up the town, there is a supermarket, a servo and the Cox Country Club - an old open air pub that has been hosting the MUFF annually since 2013. The festival goes for two days over a chosen weekend in June, with camping on site. Admission is FREE and the beer is cold and cheap, they claim to be the cheapest in Darwin.
Driving there can take 90 minutes, or a you can take a ferry and shuttle bus for $40 - a much nicer way to travel.
There is a lot going on at MUFF - there is a main stage that hosts a few different ukulele groups, local singers, interstate groups, you can sign up to open mic, there's workshops and competitions running all weekend. Our favourite part was actually just the people watching - there are a lot of colourful characters that took to the stage. Pip and Anne- we love you!
Also don't go home without buying some MUFF merch - it's a great conversational piece.
